OUSMANE SEMBENE is without a doubt one of the greatest African filmmakers. Known for his compelling stories, and socially aware films. Sembène was able to craft a path that many African filmmakers will embark on to tell their stories. Born in 1923 in Senegal, Ousmane Sembène was also a writer and producer. His novels were read in schools around the continent as well as his movies were seen.

A pioneer of African cinema and with many accolades in his regard for his honest and impacting art. Sembène will forever remain a legend who helped bring African cinema to the world.
